Sports FAQ
Common questions about how sports markets work on Cupdiction.
Match outcome — group stage
What happens if the match ends in a draw?
In the group stage, draws are possible. Cupdiction creates three separate markets per match:
- “Mexico to beat South Africa?” — YES only if Mexico wins in 90 min
- “South Africa to beat Mexico?” — YES only if South Africa wins in 90 min
- “Draw?” — YES only if the match ends level after 90 min
Each market is independent. Buy the one you believe in.
Does extra time count in group stage markets?
No. Group stage matches cannot go to extra time — they end at 90 minutes. A draw after 90 min is a draw. The “Draw?” market resolves YES; the two team win markets resolve NO.
Can a group stage match go to penalties?
No. Penalties only happen in knockout rounds (Round of 32 onwards). Group stage results are always decided after 90 minutes.
Match outcome — knockout rounds
Does extra time count in knockout round markets?
Yes. From the Round of 32 onwards, if a match goes to extra time, the final result (including any extra time or penalties) determines the outcome.
My team won on penalties — does “Team A to advance?” resolve YES?
Yes. Winning via extra time or penalties still counts as advancing. The market resolves YES.
Is there a “Draw?” market in knockout rounds?
No. Knockout matches always produce a winner — draws lead to extra time and penalties. Only two markets exist per knockout match: one for each team to advance.
Player props
What if Mbappé gets injured before the group stage ends?
The market stays open until the group stage ends (June 27). If Mbappé scored in any group stage match before the injury, YES resolves. If he played no matches and scored no goals, NO resolves. The injury itself does not trigger resolution.
What if the player doesn’t play at all in the group stage?
If a player listed in a prop market doesn’t appear in any group stage match and scores zero goals, the market resolves NO at the end of the group stage.
Does an own goal count toward a player’s goal tally?
No. Own goals are credited to the team, not the scorer. Only goals scored by the player themselves count.
What if a goal is disallowed by VAR?
Disallowed goals do not count. Only goals that officially stand in the final match result count for both match outcome and player prop markets.
Tournament winner markets
France got eliminated — does “France to win World Cup?” resolve immediately?
Yes. As soon as a team is officially eliminated, their tournament winner market resolves NO. This can happen at any stage — after the group stage, Round of 32, or any knockout round.
When exactly does the tournament winner market resolve?
When the Final is confirmed. The champion’s YES market resolves at the full-time whistle of the Final on July 19. All other remaining teams’ markets resolve NO at the same time.
Can I trade a tournament winner market after the group stage?
Trading locks at the start of the tournament (group stage kickoff). After that, all positions are held until resolution. You cannot buy or sell tournament winner shares once the tournament starts.
Special markets
“All 3 hosts advance from groups” — what counts as advancing?
All three host nations (USA, Mexico, Canada) must finish in the top 2 of their group, or qualify as one of the 8 best third-place teams. If any one of the three fails to advance to the Round of 32, the market resolves NO.
“African team reaches World Cup semifinals” — which teams count?
Any of the African nations in the 2026 tournament (Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, Ghana, South Africa, Ivory Coast, Tunisia, Cameroon, Nigeria, DR Congo, and others). If any one of them finishes in the top 4, YES resolves.
Resolution timing
How long after the final whistle does my market resolve?
Typically within 15 minutes. The Azuro Protocol oracle publishes the result on-chain shortly after the official result is confirmed. For matches that go to extra time or penalties, resolution happens after the penalty shootout ends.
My market shows “Pending Recheck” — what does that mean?
The oracle ran but couldn’t confirm the result yet (usually a brief data delay). It retries automatically. No action needed from you — it resolves on its own within a few minutes.
What if VAR overturns a decision after the market has already resolved?
If Azuro has already published and settled the market, the result stands. Markets do not re-open for VAR reviews that happen after the oracle has confirmed the final result.
What if an official protest changes the result?
Extremely rare. If FIFA officially changes a match result after it has already been used to resolve a market, the Cupdiction team will review the case and may re-resolve or void the affected markets. Any action will be announced publicly.
Abandoned or postponed matches
What if a match is postponed to the same day?
The market waits for the result and resolves normally when the match completes.
What if a match is postponed to a different day?
The market is paused. It resolves when the match is eventually played.
What if a match is postponed more than 7 days or cancelled entirely?
The market is voided. All stakes are refunded in full. No fees are charged on voided markets.
What if a match is abandoned mid-game?
The market is voided and stakes are refunded. Partial results from an abandoned match are not used.
Prices and trading
Why did the price of my market change overnight?
Prices move whenever other traders buy or sell. A YES price rising from 28¢ to 34¢ means more traders have been buying YES — shifting the market’s implied probability. No external trigger is needed; it’s pure supply and demand.
Can I sell my position before the match?
Not in the current version. Positions are held until market resolution. Early exit is not supported in MVP.
